Heil Kitler

A pair of moggies left homeless after the bloody end of a neo-Nazi murder gang are at the centre of a row over their 1,000 GBP bill at an animal rescue centre.

The cats were handed into a shelter in Zwickau, Germany, in November by suspect Beate Zschape shortly before she blew up her home - the headquarters of the National Socialist Underground - and then handed herself into police.

The group is believed to have carried out up to 10 brutal murders across Germany of workers from kebab shops with a Turkish origin.

Two of its members killed each other when they were trapped by police during a botched bank robbery.

Now animal shelter owner Claudia Ruf has asked for the cats' care bill to be settled by police, who have been holding their owner Zschape in custody for three months.

"The police deny any responsibility and it seems we may have to sue their owner, which could take months if not years," said one refuge worker.

Ruf has refused to name or identify the cats in any way to prevent other neo-Nazis from trying to adopt them.

"These animals just need a nice, loving home, not another bunch of crazies," said one worker.
